Christine Parker
Christine Parker was appointed Musical Director of Elmbridge Ladies Choir in June 2017. She studied Music as her main subject at teacher training college, gaining Associated Board Grade 8 in Singing and Flute, picking up on her piano skills and more recently starting to learn to play the cello. Chris taught in Primary Schools in the area, becoming a headteacher before retiring and immediately joining ELC. Throughout her career, she taught music and led children's choirs and enjoyed the opportunity of taking them to sing at The Royal Albert Hall and the O2.
Chris has lived in Surrey much of her life with her husband, having 3 children and now enjoying the gift of grandchildren. Since retiring she has found ELC a wonderful way to meet lovely people, learn new skills and visit other parts of Europe when the choir goes on tour. She is honoured that Cliff Van Tonder offered her the opportunity to lead the choir and build on their skills, knowing they will meet all musical challenges positively. She loves the choir and couldn't hope to meet a more supportive group of women who have bonded over their love of singing.
The choir continues to develop their ability to sing without sheet music so they can further engage with the audience when performing. They are also gaining in confidence to sing a Capella. Chris is a great believer in music being fun and this is evident in rehearsals in which the ladies work hard but also laugh and enjoy sharing the music with each other.
